When the fledgeling Northside Makers committee sat down to figure out how, why, where and when we were going to create a market, an equally important question was what kind of market we wanted to create. It only took a moment to discover we all had the same market in mind as our model. We wanted it to be just like Made 'N Thornbury.

The stallholders are relaxed and quickly make new friends, visitors flowing in from the neighbourhood, and everyone thoroughly enjoys themselves.

In fact, we even consulted with Justine from Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House about the finer points of market organisation. That's the kind of environment Made 'N Thornbury fosters - people helping each other to achieve their goals.

We mention this little love-fest today, because crafters, cooks and clowns (maybe) are currently rising from their beds early on a Saturday morn for the Fathers Day edition of Made 'N Thornbury. As well as the usual handmade goodies we all relish treating ourselves to, there'll be gifts made with Dad in mind. There'll also be cupcakes, a kids craft table, great coffee, a string trio and a bounteous craft basket with donated items from all the stallholders up for grabs.

Come say hello to Northside Makers Pivotal Expressions,Curlypops, Finki, Tinniegirl, Konstant Kaos, Flickettysplits and Mrs Beckinsale. Wow, what a huge list!

Sprout Community Market

Winter has fled, spring is thoroughly here and with it we welcome back Sprout Community Market.

Combining the organic sensibility of a farmer's market with the relaxed warmth of a summer evening market, the Sprout Community Market is held on the first Thursday of every month from September to May. It's the perfect chance to restock your local produce supply after picking the kids up from school on on your way home from work. All the fresh produce has been grown within 160km of Thornbury, which takes all the hassle out of the 100 Mile Diet. There's also plants, crafts and herbs on sale, as well as live music and ready-to-eat food to flavour your summer evening. The weather's gorgeous today so why not take the family along for an outdoor dinner?

Welcome to Northside Makers Collective.....

Welcome to Northside Makers, we'd love you to join in on the fun. But first, a little about us.

Northside Makers Collective is a not-for-profit craft association, encouraging and supporting craftspeople, hobbyists and micro business in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

The Collective is a collaborative effort of three like-minded crafty young mothers living in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Having met through our craft market adventures, we soon discovered that we had all the same ideas for what sort of craft market we'd like to be involved in and a desire to do that little bit more for the crafty community. We had a shared interest in representing local crafters and wanting to see the profits from markets be put back into supporting the growth of craft in the North.

Creating something so much more ... than just another craft market.

We have a united vision of facilitating local crafting gatherings which will complement a summer calender of community markets where members and local groups can showcase their crafty endeavors. Stay tuned!
