Coffee, Craft and Community

What a start to the year it has been! Many people who do regular markets see January as "my crafty time", a chance to make for themselves after the madness of Christmas. While you've been enjoying creating pretty little things, the Northside Makers Committee have met and nutted out a few things for the first quarter of the year.

Mrs Finki's Konstant Beckinsale Kaos

As most of you know, we have a market scheduled for 6th February, so we are busy going through applications and there are lots of them. If you have applied but not heard, do not fear, our online widgets have your details and we are hoping to have most of the applicants processed by the end of next week.

But we thought we would kick off the start of the year with another of our Coffee and Craft events at CERES. Good fair trade coffee and yummy gluten free cakes ... The weather man says that the weather is going to be fine, with a few light showers. We'll get a table under cover and enjoy the non-45 degree days! Bring along a hand-crafting project to work on as we gossip, sip and sup. If you don't have a project you're welcome to come along anyway!

Coffee & Craft

If you have ideas for events, or you would like to host a workshop, drop us a line at northsidemakers [at] gmail [dot] com or come along this Sunday for a coffee and share your ideas.

Counterfeit Crochet

Hello Northsiders!

Can you tell that one of us is 30,000 miles away in the land of "u" "k"? The blog has been mysteriously quiet of late ... Jennie's adventures in England can be found on her blog.

In the meantime, Jay and I have been busy sorting through the applicants for the next market, and geez do we have lots of applicants for our humble market!

We had our first work through last night, making a "yes" and "maybe" list. Our first priority goes to local newbies who don't do a lot of markets. There is only so much we can do without our final team member. Our virtual team infrastructure has been having a workout, with wiki's, google docs and MSN being used to make decisions.

We are also tossing around dates for Coffee and Craft and even Cider and Craft when I came across this site.

Counterfeit Crochet ... debasing and defiling designer items one step at a time...

Hope you are all having an enjoyable crafty week ... stay tuned for news of our next craft-a-long session.

Coffee and Craft wrap up

A lovely couple of hours was spent at CERES on Sunday for our Coffee and Craft meet up.

We had a few familiar faces from our last coffee n chat and some lovely newbies.

Sudha was there with her tatting, Emma and Margaret crocheted away, Cathy came along for a chat whilst the multitasking wonder, Melanie somehow managed to work out how to hold baby and crochet at the same time......(respect!). Rachel a newbie turned up along with Jay and Jennie and the talented Melanie* was working on some beautiful redwork for Kooyoto's Quilt Project, breathtaking.

About half way through the afternoon Barbara joined us, an octogenarian who wanted to learn how to crochet. We were delighted to hear that she saw our article in the leader and had to smile when she told us that she had to get her daughter to look us up on the net, as she didn't have a computer at home. Craft knows no boundaries, and when an 86 year old wants to join the club.....
she's not gunna let a little bit of missing technology come between us.

Thanks for hunting us down Barbara, we're glad to have you on board.

We had such a great day and as usual time just flies. Too soon, it was home time and several of the dads turned up with the kids. Luckily it was a perfect venue for entertaining crafty mums, dads and kids alike. So we managed to steal a bit more time whilst the kids buried themselves in the sandpit.......

Keep an eye on our blog, for the next coffee n' craft dates.
A perfect way to meet like minded peeps from your neighbourhood.
