Cider and Craft at the Northcote Social

What better way to spend a Monday night, than crafting and drinking with a bunch of Northside Makers gals.

We all met up at the Northcote Social club on Monday night for dinner then craft.
The night was aptly named Cider and Craft because the Northcote Social does not serve tea or coffee! .......and maybe because our intentions were out side the realms of serenely sipping coffee!

There was much craft to be had, from hand sewing to stamp carvings ...

Some of our crafters were sporting skills that we had not seen before ...

and lots of discussions happening from toddler taming....... through to bath mat knitting with left over sheets ...

Talking about our crafty plans for Christmas and of course......

some glasses of wine and cider shared along the way! Lots of fun!
Hope to see you at the next one.

International Day of Felt 3rd October 2009

Hey did you know that it is International Year of the Natural Fibres?

via fibrespace on flickr

So Northside Makers ... do you have any felt you would like to show off? Blog about it and link to this post!
"In celebration of the first-ever International Day of Felt, a group of felt artists has formed under the name ‘Felt United’ and have invited felt makers from around the globe to join them in helping to raise awareness of felt making, both as a craft and as an art form. Felt United has set a theme, which is ‘a slice of the colour wheel’, yellow through red. They have also set the task of getting felt makers to display their felt and to make a project of getting people together to make felt.

This is an open call to felters around the world who have not yet heard about FeltUnited. We are asking felters everywhere to participate on October 3rd, 2009. Display your felt - on your front door, in the park, along the road or on your car." via Canberra Felters

Wrap up: Coffee and Craft in Thornbury

It was fun for all at the first Northside Makers Craft and Coffee in Thornbury.

We crocheted and crafted the afternoon away while drinking coffee, tea and eating yummy hazelnut brownies!

Who came? Northside Makers Members Jay from Finki, Jennie from Craving Frocks and Margaret from Konstant Kaos. Beky from Pivotal Expressions, Sian and her friend Rachel, Melanie from M* and Chrissy.

Most of us crocheted away, some first timers and some real pro's, whilst others (see Jennie's pic with robot arms) stitched together little projects.
We also shared some great resources that we had discovered on crochet:
Thanks to every one who dropped by to say hello, it was lovely to meet you all.
Stay tuned for our next coffee and catch up at a suburb near you.................
